Background

Alpha-1-Fetoprotein (AFP) is a glycoprotein , which is normally expressed in fetal liver and endoderm of yolk sac. Neoplasms commonly associated with Alpha-1-Fetoprotein (AFP) production are hepatocellular carcinoma and a variety of germ cell tumors, such as yolk sac tumors. In the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, AFP has shown low sensitivity but high specificity,so it is commonly used in combination with other antibodies.
