Background
BRCA1(Breast cancer susceptibility gene 1) is one of the predisposing genes of breast cancer and ovarian cancer, which has an inhibitory effect on breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The mutated BRCA1 gene usually produces proteins that cannot function properly. Researchers believe that the defective BRCA1 protein cannot help repair DNA damage that causes mutations in other genes. These mutations can accumulate and may cause cells to grow and divide uncontrollably to form tumors. Therefore, BRCA1 inactivating mutations lead to cancer susceptibility and increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
