CAM5.2

Background

CAM5.2 is a commonly used very low molecular weight keratin. In normal tissues, the secretory epithelium (glandular epithelium) is positive for CAM5.2, while the laminated squamous epithelium is negative, which is one of the common markers of glandular epithelium and various adenocarcinomas. CAM5.2 can be used in combination with high molecular weight keratin to distinguish adenocarcinoma from squamous carcinoma. In addition, CAM5.2 is generally considered suitable for the detection of metastatic breast cancer in (sentinel) lymph nodes.
