Background

Carcinoembryonic antigen M2A (D2-40) is an O-linked sialic acid glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40 kDa. It is a selective marker of lymphatic endothelium in normal tissues and vascular lesions. D2-40 can be found on the surface of spermatogenic cells, germ cell tumors, lymphatic endothelial cells and mesenchymal cells of testis, and can also be expressed on mesenchymal cells and primitive germ cells. Studies have shown D2-40 staining in lymphatic channel endothelium, but not in the adjacent capillary. It is usually used to label lymphatic endothelium in tissues, which is helpful for the diagnosis of lymphatic endothelium cell-derived tumors and for determining whether lymphatic infiltration and metastasis occur in other tumor tissues.
