Background

The excision repair cross complementation group 1 (ERCC1) gene encodes proteins required for nucleotide excision repair and DNA strand cross-linking repair. Studies have found that platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug resistance is related to increased ERCC1-XPF nuclease levels. The expression of ERCC1 protein is negative, and patients with cisplatin adjuvant chemotherapy may benefit from survival; positive expression of ERCC1 protein may indicate resistance to this platinum drug. Therefore, ERCC1 becomes a potential predictive diagnostic biomarker. ERCC1 expression may have prognostic value for lung cancer, colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer.
