Background

MUC1 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein, which can protect epithelial cells from injury caused by external stimulation, and participate in intercellular adhesion, proliferation, movement, invasion and survival. MUC1 is mainly expressed in the proximal lumen or glandular surface of epithelial cells in various tissues and organs, with apical and polar expression. And there is little or no expression in gastrointestinal epithelium, uterine epithelium and prostate. Recently, it is found that MUC1 expressed in many cells of hematopoietic system (T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, etc.). Its immunoreactivity usually be seen in the apical cell membrane, but also in the Golgi region.
