Background

MUC4 (mucin 4) is a large membrane anchored glycoprotein of mucin family, which is expressed by epithelial cells in lung, bronchus, stomach, colon, cervix and other normal tissues. MUC4 usually does not exist in normal pancreas, but it is expressed in most pancreatic tumors, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. In addition, the expression of various cancers has also been reported, including gastric adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma.
