Background
MUC5AC is a group of high molecular weight glycoproteins. Its synthesis and secretion is one of the characteristics of glandular epithelium. MUC5AC is normally expressed in stomach, ovary, bronchus and other tissues. And it is formed as a gel on the surface of mucosa to protect mucosa. MUC5AC protein expression or abnormal expression can be observed in precancerous or cancerous tissues of colon, stomach, gallbladder and non-small cell lung cancer.
