Background
MUC6 is one of the secretory mucins produced by many different epithelial tissues. MUC6 is often expressed in non-neoplastic gastric tissues, especially in the gastric pyloric gland. In the process of tumor transformation, these tissues change the expression of mucin, thus forms a specific expression pattern. In physiological state, MUC2 is only expressed in normal intestinal mucosa (intestinal mucus), while MUC5AC and MUC6 are only expressed in normal gastric mucosa (gastric mucus), so the combination of the three has certain significance in the differential judging of gastrointestinal tumors.
