Background
Nucleoside diphosphate reductase large subunit (RRM1) is one of the two different subunits that make up nucleoside diphosphate reductase. This enzyme is essential for the production of deoxyribonucleotides before DNA synthesis in the S phase of dividing cells. RRM1 can reflect carcinogenesis and tumor development. The expression of RRM1 in non-small cell lung cancer is highly correlated with the expression of ERCC and PTEN. RRM1 positive tumors indicate slow progress.
