Background

STAT6 (Signal transducer and activator of transcription 6) is a member of the STAT family of cytoplasmic transcription factors. It regulates gene expression by transmitting the signal to the nucleus and combining with a specific DNA promoter sequence.STAT signal plays an important role in embryonic development, immune tolerance, tumor monitoring, cell differentiation, growth and apoptosis. The nuclear expression of STAT6 has been found in almost all cases of solitary fibrous tumors (SFT), and its expression is very limited in other soft tissue tumors. Thus, STAT6 is a highly sensitive and specific immunohistochemical marker for SFT and may be useful in differentiating this tumor type from histological simulations.
