Background
TGF-β superfamily is a key regulator of cell proliferation, differentiation, development, morphogenesis and pathological mechanism. TGF- β transmits signals through three cell surface receptors: type I (RI), type II (RII) and type III (RIII). Type I and type II receptors are serine/threonine kinases that form heterolateral complexes. Under the stimulation of ligand binding, type II receptor and type I receptor form stable complex to phosphorylate and activate type I receptor kinase.
